Inside Sharp

Four ingredients. One considered formula.

Lutein and zeaxanthin lead our eye-nutrition direction. Citicoline and L-theanine complete the blend we are developing for life on screen.

Citicoline

Citicoline, also known as CDP-choline, has been studied for memory. A randomized trial in older adults found improvements in some memory measures after daily supplementation.

What the research says

In a 12-week trial of 100 adults aged 50–85 with age-associated memory impairment, 500 mg/day improved episodic and composite memory scores versus placebo. These were secondary outcomes. The findings do not establish the same benefit in younger adults or from Wakey Sharp, whose final serving amount is still being confirmed.

L-theanine

L-theanine is an amino acid found in tea. Human studies suggest potential benefits for short-term attention; evidence for stress reduction is less certain.

What the research says

A 2026 meta-analysis of 31 randomized trials found improved choice reaction time after a single 200 mg dose in healthy adults. The stress effect was modest and influenced by studies at high risk of bias. The earlier review below provides background. These findings do not establish benefits for Wakey Sharp or its unconfirmed serving amount.

L-theanine

A calmer kind of ritual.

Lutein

Lutein is one of the pigments found in the macula. Research pairing it with zeaxanthin has found improvements in recovery after bright light and in some measures of visual contrast.

What the research says

A one-year randomized trial in 115 healthy young adults tested 10 mg lutein plus 2 mg zeaxanthin daily. The combination improved recovery after bright light and color-contrast performance versus placebo; the glare-disability result was not significant. The study cannot isolate lutein’s contribution or establish benefits from Wakey Sharp.

Zeaxanthin

Zeaxanthin is a macular pigment commonly studied alongside lutein. Together, they have shown benefits on selected visual-performance tests in a randomized trial.

What the research says

The trial linked below tested 2 mg zeaxanthin with 10 mg lutein daily for one year in 115 healthy young adults. Recovery after bright light and color-contrast performance improved versus placebo, but glare disability did not improve significantly. These are findings for the combination, not zeaxanthin alone or Wakey Sharp.
